For every country children are the greatest assets, and the pointers of future. So we need to protect them from disability, poor health and other threats for their well-being. Control, treatment and prevention of avoidable childhood blindness thus play a major role.
In this effort Little Flower Hospital & Research Centre, Angamaly has joined hands with ORBIS International, to meet the problem of childhood blindness in the state of Kerala.
As a nonprofit organization, ORBIS International strives to eliminate avoidable blindness and restore sight in the developing world, where 90% of the world’s blind live. ORBIS is a founding member of Vision 2020, a global initiative led by the World Health Organization and the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness, which aims to end avoidable blindness by the year 2020. ( In the introduction part, immediately after mentioning the association between LFH & ORBIS).
There is also a need to educate others like paediatricians, general practioners, parents, teachers, community volunteers and even ophthalmologists regarding the importance of paediatric ophthalmology. A set of objectives have been identified and defined which we hope to achieve towards the end of the project. |
